So last night was the Haiti Benefit show. Packed house, which makes you realize how nice the set up at The Slowdown is, considering my giant frame could easily move through out the crowd and for once they weren't taking 25 years to get your drink. I had never seen Tilly and the Wall and I am a little disappointed they didn't have their tap dancer on stage. Bright Eyes reminded me why I stopped listening to his music, I am no longer an angst ridden suburban teenager. I really enjoyed some of Bear Country's set, and I would like to see them again.
My one big complaint is that never once did I hear an artist on stage urge people to donate to the Red Cross in order to help Haiti. I am not sure if this would of thrown them and most of the crowd into an Emo Overload, but it was the whole reason we were all there, well at least the supposed reason. I also don't understand why no one did the obvious and cover The Arcade Fire's Haiti...
Any way, this photo is a composite of both Tilly and the Wall and Bright Eyes, I love my iPhone...
I left two songs into Tilly and the Wall's set because I was so utterly bored with it. All of their songs sounded the same to me (especially without the tapping). So, once again, I missed Bright Eyes, and I can't say I'm really sad about it. I mean, I loved him in high school too, but...you gotta grow, man.
ReplyDeleteIt's True was radical, as per usual. Also, I know you don't particularly dig it, but I thought Brad's performance was stellar. He did a few new songs and I really love his lyrics. It's interesting to me that we have two completely different listening experiences.
I just thought that one line Hoshaw had about taking off your clothes and taking the lord's name in vain put the image of my head of two people screaming GOD DAMMIT in the nude.
ReplyDeleteIt's True played the same songs I heard them play over the summer, which where the same songs I heard them play last winter. They are good, they just need to write some new stuff or not play every other day...
They played one brand new song and a cover...they have some new stuff, maybe you just didn't realize it?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think that's the point with the Hoshaw song. It's about a one-night stand.
'I pull back the sheets and take the lord's name in vain. Her bare shoulders and feet do not tell her name. She's deep in a dream but I am wide awake. I think we played the barstool drunken fool game.'
I see it like, 'God damnit, I can't believe I got drunk again last night and banged another random chick.' Only, you know, more poetic.
