Moon

Moon was released on Blu Ray today. This is a great example of where a science fiction idea is turned into something that questions the nature of reality and existence. I won't spoil the twist for those of you who haven't seen it, with that I implore you to seek this movie out. I would put it up as one of the top movies of 2009.

This is Duncan Jones first film, and he nails it. With actual set pieces and miniatures, Moon is considered shoe string budget at five million dollars. Sam Rockwell delivers a spectacular performance as the lone worker on a Moon mining station, his only companion is a robot played by Kevin Spacey.

A surreal masterpiece, Moon is something I look forward to watching time and time again.

  1. This was a seriously great flick. Sam Rockwell is kind of the man.

  2. Rewatching Moon last night helped underscore some of the desperation in Sam Bell to learn who he really is and where he comes from. This is easily Sam Rockwell's best performance in his career and it is sad that Sony has not supported this movie further.

It is a wonderfully written and directed movie to boot. The shots of the Moon and the stark silent beauty that it holds are memsmerizing. I think maybe the greatest shot is at the height of Sam's breakdown he wimpers "I want to go home..." At which point it cuts to his loan rover and pans over to the beautiful glowing blue orb.

I could really gush about this movie for a long time.
