Here is a side by side comparison of the first scene in LOST Season 1 to Season 6; spot the difference, debate alternate time lines, have your mind melt.
I saw the most recent episode of Lost. Everyone was dead and alive again and there was a smoke monster and a guy who was a doctor who didn't know how to properly perform CPR who also used to be on Party of Five and a fountain of youth and an old guy who apparently is everywhere at once and, with all that shit going on, you'd think I'd be able to pick out something to like about the show but, frankly, still not interested. Not even a little.
I think what you meant to say was 'Pick any other TV show and start 5/6ths of the way through it and see if you understand what's going on or like it.' I bet I'd probably find that I understand it pretty easily, even if I didn't like it all that much, because it's TV.
Lost is the only TV show that I watch and feel like I'm trying to put together a puzzle upside down. And to make matters worse, some asshole keeps switching out pieces of MY puzzle with some other puzzle, you know, just for kicks. I get that it's pretty involved. I get that it makes you think (or so I've heard) and that people get really hooked on it. What I DON'T get is why they make it so unbelievably inaccessible to everyone who hasn't seen the series in its entirety. That's just stupid.
Also, I just like to dog on Lost because everyone I know gets such a huge boner about it. I mean, I don't even have TV at my house.
Nah, I can dig on that. I mean when I first started watching LOST I felt the same way. That it was going to be this perpetual BS cliff hanger every episode. But once I started watching the show it was very interesting.
One thing that really saved it too from going into perpetual BS is in Season 3 they said that season 6 would be the final season. So suddenly, their was more purpose and levity to what was going on.
LOST is also different then a lot of other TV shows (including Dr. Who) in that involvement. Dr. Who is very serial, one episode doesn't bleed into the next, you can watch a single episode from a random season and you get a whole story. LOST is one story told over a giant arch of seasons.
Yeah, I get that but...still. I mean, I can get behind shows that carry things over from one episode to the next. That's part of what can make a show interesting to watch. I mean, it's not a sitcom and I get that. I'm just saying, I watched one episode and NOTHING about it made any sense. Even with all of the shit I've learned about the show through...I dunno, osmosis? I shouldn't have to watch the first 5 seasons of a show to be up to date. Maybe the first few episodes. Maybe an episode or two from each season. I'm just saying. I'm not trying to get people not to like it, I just hate the fact that I'm absorbed in it every Tuesday night now, and again for three or so days while people talk about the newest episode. Boo. Anyway, I guess it's called LOST for a reason, because that's exactly how I feel when I watch it.

ReplyDeletePick a book up you have never read, and start 5/6ths the way through it and see if you understand what's going on or like it.
ReplyDeleteOk, except for the fact that it's TV, not a book.
