In case you missed it, the OEA (Omaha Entertainment Awards) Showcase was last weekend in Benson. The two-day event featured over 60 local acts, and one act from the showcase will be selected to perform at the MAHA Music Festival at the end of August. If you managed to make it out to the shows, you can vote here for your favorite act. Clark mentioned the Showcase in his post below as well. Since it's basically impossible to see everyone you want to see, I've got some highlights of my own:
I've had a chance to see Sarah Benck perform before, but never really like this, and it's been a while since I've seen her play with a band. She puts on a solid show mixing so many different sounds. And yes, her stage presence is amazingly sexy.
Another favorite of mine was Little Black Stereo, a new(ish) band to the Omaha scene. They've got Liz Webb from Midwest Dilemma on vocals and they do a solid cover of Space Oddity.
Next on the list is Underwater Dream Machine, fronted by Bret Vovk. Bret and UWDM released a CD last year on Slo-Fi records, and is definitely worth a listen. Cass Brostad, Danny Bueno, Vern Ferguson, and Annie Dilocker in the backing band for Bret that night. It was a great performance with some really solid pop melodies.
Finally, to close out the showcase, (my favorite) It's True played a great set with a couple of new songs. The band seemed more together than ever that night, even with the new songs, and even got to do an encore! It's True's music has changed so much in the past few months, and I really think they're finding their sound. I hope to see big things coming from this band in the near future and am looking forward to a new release from them (hopefully) soon.
